The British weather can change quickly, and at AW Inflatables, safety will always come before a booking.
Whether you're hiring a bouncy castle for a birthday party or we're providing multiple attractions for a large event, weather conditions can affect whether inflatable equipment can be safely installed and operated.
Our team monitors weather conditions and forecasts and will make safety decisions based on the conditions expected at your event location.
If conditions aren't safe, we won't take unnecessary risks.
💨 Wind & Bouncy Castle Hire
Wind is one of the most important factors affecting outdoor inflatable safety.
Maximum Wind Speed: 24mph
Inflatables must not be operated where wind speeds or gusts exceed 24mph.
Some inflatables, locations or circumstances may require use to stop at a lower wind speed.
Our team may consider:
✓ Average wind speed
✓ Wind gusts
✓ Individual equipment limits
✓ Site exposure
✓ Surrounding buildings and trees
✓ Ground conditions
✓ Anchoring conditions
✓ Changes expected during the hire period
Gusts Matter Too
A forecast showing average winds below 24mph does not automatically mean conditions are suitable.
Wind gusts must also be considered.
If gusts are forecast to exceed the permitted operating limit, outdoor inflatable use may not be possible.
How We Monitor the Weather
We monitor forecasts when necessary in the lead-up to outdoor bookings.
However, weather forecasts can change quickly.
This means we cannot always make a final decision several days in advance.
Conditions may need to be reassessed:
• Before delivery
• When our team arrives
• During installation
• During the hire
The actual conditions at the venue are important, not simply what a weather app showed earlier in the week.
🌧️ Rain & Inflatable Hire
A small amount of rain doesn't necessarily mean your entire event is cancelled.
However, the safety of users and equipment must always be considered.
Some inflatables have shower or rain covers, but these do not make an inflatable suitable for unrestricted use during wet weather.
During significant or heavy rain:
Stop using the inflatable.
Users should leave safely and should not return until conditions are suitable.
Wet inflatable surfaces can become slippery and increase the risk of accidents.
After a Rain Shower
Before use resumes, the inflatable should be checked to ensure it is safe.
Standing water should not be allowed to accumulate in the inflatable.
Do not attempt to solve the problem by adding more water or using a hose.

⛈️ Thunderstorms & Lightning
Inflatable equipment should not continue to be used where thunderstorms or lightning create unsafe conditions.
If a thunderstorm approaches:
Stop use immediately.
Remove users from the inflatable and prevent further use.
Do not take unnecessary risks during electrical storms or severe weather.
Where necessary, contact our team for advice.
☀️ Hot Weather
Warm weather can be fantastic for an outdoor party, but additional care is required during periods of high temperatures.
We recommend:
🧦 Wearing socks when using inflatables
💧 Drinking plenty of water
🌳 Taking regular breaks
☀️ Using appropriate sun protection
👀 Maintaining responsible adult supervision
Children should be monitored for signs that they are becoming too hot or uncomfortable.
Extreme Heat
During exceptionally hot weather, inflatable surfaces and the surrounding environment can become uncomfortable or potentially unsafe.
In extreme conditions, we may recommend:
• Taking more frequent breaks
• Temporarily stopping use
• Moving the event indoors where possible
• Changing the hire arrangements
• Rescheduling where appropriate
Where our team believes conditions present an unacceptable safety risk, we reserve the right to refuse or suspend operation.
🚫 Never Put Water on Our Inflatables
Unless you have specifically hired equipment designed and authorised for water use:
DO NOT ADD WATER TO AN INFLATABLE.
This includes:
❌ Garden hoses
❌ Sprinklers
❌ Water pistols
❌ Buckets of water
❌ Paddling pools positioned against equipment
❌ Homemade water slides
❌ Pouring water onto slides
Our standard inflatables are not water slides.
Deliberately wetting an inflatable can make it unsafe, significantly increase cleaning and drying time and potentially damage equipment.
A £100 cleaning and drying charge may apply where an inflatable has been deliberately made wet.
🌱 Wet & Waterlogged Ground
Weather conditions before your event can also affect your booking.
Even if it's sunny on the day, several days of heavy rain may leave the proposed setup area:
• Waterlogged
• Muddy
• Excessively soft
• Unstable
• Unsuitable for secure anchoring
If our team cannot safely anchor the equipment, we may be unable to install it.
Safe anchoring is essential.
Soft Play & Wet Weather
Our soft play equipment is:
🏠 INDOOR USE ONLY
Soft play must not be installed or used outdoors.
This protects the equipment from:
• Rain
• Mud
• Moisture
• Contamination
• Weather damage
If you're booking soft play, please ensure you have a suitable indoor venue.
What Happens If Bad Weather Is Forecast?
Don't panic if you see rain or wind appearing on the forecast several days before your event.
British weather forecasts can change considerably.
Where weather conditions may affect your booking, we'll assess the available information and determine the safest course of action.
Depending on the circumstances and your booking, available options may include:
✓ Continuing as planned where conditions are safe
✓ Adjusting arrangements
✓ Moving indoors where suitable
✓ Using alternative suitable equipment
✓ Rearranging the booking where permitted
Any cancellation, transfer or payment arrangements remain subject to our Terms & Conditions and Cancellation, Refund & Weather Policy.
Please Don't Rely on One Weather App
Different weather services can sometimes show different forecasts.
A single screenshot showing acceptable conditions does not override an unsafe situation at the venue.
Our team must consider the overall conditions and the requirements of the individual equipment.
The safety decision of AW Inflatables remains final.
Weather Can Change During Your Hire
Safe conditions at the beginning of an event do not guarantee that conditions will remain safe all day.
The responsible adult supervising the inflatable should continue to monitor conditions throughout the hire.
If weather deteriorates:
Stop use.
Remove users safely.
Prevent further access.
Contact AW Inflatables if necessary.
Never continue operating an inflatable simply because it was considered safe earlier in the day.
Never Move or Alter the Inflatable
If weather conditions change, customers must not attempt to:
❌ Move the inflatable
❌ Remove stakes or anchors
❌ Change anchoring positions
❌ Relocate the blower
❌ Modify the setup
❌ Attempt to dismantle the equipment
