Basic Operating Instructions
To help you get the best out of your inflatable and operate it safely, please follow these essential guidelines. These rules are designed to make running your inflatable enjoyable, safe, and stress-free.
🧠 Common Sense Rules
Safety is paramount — a sensible and careful approach at the start will prevent problems later on.
👩🏫 Operator Supervision
- A responsible adult (18+) must supervise the inflatable at all times.
- At larger events, attendants aged 16+ may assist with managing entry and exit.
- Supervisors and attendants must remain on duty whenever the inflatable is in use.
📍 Site Setup
- Choose a flat, grassed area free from sharp objects, stones, or glass.
- If the inflatable is used at an event with large crowds, allow for additional space and install crowd control barriers:
- 6–8 ft (1.8–2.5 m) from any walled side.
- 12–15 ft (3.5–4 m) from the open/front side.
- A 3 ft (1 m) wide entry gate is sufficient.
- Barriers should be at least 3 ft (1 m) high to create a safe operating zone.
⚠️ Never operate the inflatable if it is not correctly anchored down.
⚠️ Always ensure safety crash mats are in position at all times.
⚙️ Operating Guidelines
- Adults and children must never use the inflatable at the same time.
- Follow the safety label on the inflatable for the maximum number of users and height restrictions.
- Avoid overcrowding — allow enough room for users to bounce safely.
- Separate larger or more boisterous children from smaller ones.
- The operator must watch continuously and use a whistle or signal to control users.
- No rough play, climbing, or hanging on the walls. Persistent offenders should be removed.
- Ensure all users remove shoes, glasses, and sharp objects before entering.
- The step is for entry and exit only, not for bouncing or play.
- No somersaults or risky manoeuvres are allowed.
- For outdoor hires:
- Stop using the inflatable in heavy rain or strong winds.
- Dry the surface thoroughly before resuming use.
- The maximum safe wind speed is Force 5 (19–24 mph / 28–38 kph) — when small trees begin to sway.
- Never operate in Force 6 or higher wind speeds (strong breeze).
Refer to our Terms & Conditions (Sections 9 & 10) for full safety and weather policy details.
🔍 Routine Safety Checks
Throughout your hire or event, please regularly check:
- All anchor points and ropes are secure and undamaged.
- Anchor stakes are firmly fixed.
- No holes, rips, or damage on the inflatable surface or seams.
- Walls and towers are firm and upright — the inflatable should feel fully pressurised.
- Inflation tube is securely fastened to the blower.
- Deflation points and zips are closed and secure.
⚡ Power or Blower Failure
If power is lost:
- Blow a whistle to attract attention immediately.
- Calmly instruct all users to exit the inflatable carefully and slowly.
- Do not panic — the inflatable will gently deflate and will not cause harm.
- Ask parents to stay back to avoid worsening the situation.
- Once power is restored and safety checked, you may resume use.
If the blower runs but the inflatable feels soft:
- Check the blower air intake for blockages such as paper, leaves, or debris.
🏁 End of Hire Procedure
- Ensure all users are off before switching off the power.
- Keep barriers in place until the inflatable is fully deflated.
- Deflate by:
- Turning off the blower.
- Opening deflation tubes or zip flaps.
- Allowing the unit to fully deflate.
Please note: Only AW Inflatables staff are authorised to pack away equipment.
The inflatable must be reinflated for our team to complete safety checks before collection.
